Humanities Full Text
EBSCOhost. (2012). Humanities Full Text. Retrieved from http://www.ebscohost.com/academic/humanities-full-text
Covering a wide variety of subjects, including area studies, journalism, and history, Humanities Full Text is a worthwhile database to use for scholarly articles on the topic of genocide. Using the general search term ‘genocide’ returns a variety of articles from different journals and perspectives. A more specific search, such as genocide AND a particular country, or genocide AND politics, will yield a more specialized group of articles.
Worldwide Political Science Abstracts
ProQuest. (2012). Worldwide Political Science Abstracts. Retrieved from http://www.proquest.com/en-US/catalogs /databases/detail/polsci-set-c.shtml
Worldwide Political Science Abstracts is an excellent database for studying genocide through the lens of politics. This database covers topics such as comparative politics, international relations, international law, and the intersection of politics and religion. Searching for ‘genocide’ will yield articles on a variety of regions and topics; to narrow results, search for ‘genocide’ AND another search term, such as a region. The downfall to this database is that it provides abstracts only; if your library does not have access to the full text of the articles either in physical form or through another database, you may need to request articles through interlibrary loan.

Documentary
Worse Than War
Dewitt, M. (Producer & Director). (2009). Worse than war [Documentary]. United States: WNET.ORG & JTN Productions.
This documentary examines some of the essential questions surrounding genocide, such as: How and why do genocides start? Why do the perpetrators kill? Why have others failed to intervene in a timely manner? Former Harvard professor Daniel Goldhagen travels to nine countries, including Rwanda, Guatemala, and Bosnia, and speaks to perpetrators, witnesses, journalists, politicians, and others in a quest to better understand and explain genocide. While this is not an in-depth study of any one particular instance of genocide, it provides a broad introduction to the topic, looks at a variety of perspectives, and asks viewers to consider important questions.
